Job Description

The Policy and Regulatory Affairs team at Zoox is a cross­-functional organization responsible for advancing Zoox's public policy and regulatory goals and creating a proactive safety culture across the company.  Within the Policy and Regulatory Affairs team, the State Policy team works closely with state regulators and policymakers to foster transparency, trust, and confidence in Zoox.

As Zoox expands its operations, this exciting new role will develop and lead our Western Region state-level political and legislative strategy for Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs.  The position will represent Zoox before the executive offices of the Governor and key executive agencies, including transportation, public safety, and business and economic development, the state legislature, trade and business associations, and think tanks in states where Zoox has operations. 

This position will be based at Zoox headquarters in Foster City, CA.  Frequent travel within and out of state will be required.

In this role, you will...

• Develop, implement, and lead Zoox’s state political and legislative strategy for the Western Region (West of the Mississippi)
• Help foster and maintain relationships with state officials, their staff, and other key external stakeholders
• Manage state-level political consultants and lobbyists 
• Track current and emerging political activity and policy developments relevant to Zoox’s operations and business
• Represent Zoox at state-level association and political events
• Provide support to Zoox’s engagement with state regulators and regulatory proceedings
• Support other aspects of the state policy or larger Zoox policy portfolios by developing briefings, researching legislation, and managing complex, cross-functional projects
• Work closely with other teams at Zoox, including Legal, Communications, Safety, and other teams to ensure up-to-date knowledge of company plans and reporting policy/political developments with analysis

Qualifications

• 8+ years of public policy experience within state government and/or relevant nonprofits, public interest groups, businesses, campaigns, or industry associations
• Track record of successfully building, implementing, and evaluating complex, cross-functional public policy and government affairs projects
• Extensive political and community network at the state level in the western US
• Keen understanding of the state-level legislative and political processes
• Excellent leadership, project management, and organizational skills
• High-level research and policy analysis experience
• Experience negotiating legislation and advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with AV, transportation, or other technology policy

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience working across many different states and familiarity with different states’ legislative processes
• Experience managing consultants and/or small teams
• Experience with policy related to new technology development and/or bringing a new product to market
• Advanced Degree (J.D., MBA, MPP, MPA, etc.)

$156,000 - $187,000 a year

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
